The Works of DeProgrammer

roflmao! Thats funny …you got somethign good there, ;p, keep it up :stuck_out_tongue:

I started making small sprites of some of my friends. They’re not very detailed, but I wanted to see if anyone could help me in making them more detailed. Also, I’m not very good at capturing visual properties that make people look like themselves. Here are two of them, and I’ll upload two others later.

watches thread rise from the grave

Kinda an original idea, since I dont usually hear/see people spriting their friends. I personally dont like the style. I dont know how to describe them…mabye pillowing in places, a little blurry?

Still nice to see some work.

From what I understand, people’s creation topics don’t die.

I’m not saving the others in separate files, so here’s the image of all the friends I have completed (plus the names of two others):

ohod so pillowed ;-;

In this case, pillowing actually adds something to the style… I don’t like Devin at all, though, and they should all be more evenly styled; cartoony bodies with realistic heads = wtf, and Jovy’s head is just… blargh.

The sad thing is that I was trying to make them completely realistic. sob “Style” is just a bunch of crap. I want my stuff to be simply realistic.

Also, I have a tendency to pillowshade to some extent (particularly on ordinary-sized sprites) because two colors of high contrast never look good side-by-side in my eyes.

…Jovy’s sprite-face reminds me of Mr. Popo, personally. Here’s the best photo of Jovy I currently have at my disposal. Here is Devin, and here are Teresa and Rich.

Uh… what is Devin wearing?..>_>

Full body length trenchcoat. It’s what he wears every day.

Wow, you’ve got some… interesting friends lol. There’s a Chinese kid in my school and almost every day, he wears his ninja outfit he made in textiles lol. You should sprite him haha.

Because I felt like it:
http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/4539/fi…obomasonbv9.jpg – a drawing of me that got a bit smeared.

http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/3219/samuraimasonrg9.jpg – a drawing of me wearing what I hope to be getting for my birthday, along with a sword I already have.

http://img111.imageshack.us/img111/1415/sk…andheadsff8.jpg – the really crappy sketch is preview of the next thing I’m going to try to draw. The attempted anime-style heads are the focus of this scan. The “first attempt” is what my heads usually look like…and compared to the final one, that’s just horrible. (And I did all these within a 60-minute period.)

RoguePirate gave me a bit of a critique already, so I’ll post it:
“In the first sketch, one thing that you might want to work out is that the space between the nose and the mouth is waaay to big and the neck is a little too thick. Make the shoulders a tiny less rounded.
For number two, increase the size of the head slightly, as to make it in proportion, and shorten the upper arms a tad.
On the third one, a little too much chin and not enough forehead.”

Anyway, I think I’m pretty good at shading and I suck horribly at lines. (And of course, scanners just have to ruin the whole shading aspect of it.) What do you think?

Nice pictures there Mase, what happened to your ‘‘Popeyes’’? :stuck_out_tongue: They don’t seem to be in your self portrait there :stuck_out_tongue:

kewl

I hid them with the massive kimono sleeves and the slightly-large Hebi shirt’s sleeves. :stuck_out_tongue:

The previously mentioned “next thing I’ll draw” is partly done. I still have to do the face and clothes.

The pose is extremely stiff, mostly due to problems in the upper anatomy.

^The neck comes down in front of the shoulders, which are sloped. This gives more room between the arms and body.

For the head area, you have the eye line too high up. When looking forward, eyes land in the very center.

The entire torso area is also much too long.

The stiff legs can be fixed pretty simply, just make them at a slight angle.

Well, first, the pose is supposed to be stiff. No, I’m not kidding. It’s supposed to be stiff. She’s a demon showing off.

The “eye line,” as you thought it was, is the “ear line,” where the top of the ear goes. The neck does go into the body.

It seemed to me like the torso was too tall, too, but according to the documents that just taught me to draw bodies proportionately, it’s fine. (This is attempted anime style art, mind you.)

She looks lika a Barbie or someone from Bleach.

I’m making a Zero Suit Samus because I really want to make a sprite that isn’t detailless. :stuck_out_tongue:

[Edit: images merged. See below.]

Pretty sure I just need contrast now. Lots more of it.

It hurts trying to put lines in when the center piece needs to look 3 pixels wide.

Also, that’s supposed to be the “I’m getting my suit back” pose from SSBB, aka. the “I got a new suit” pose from Prime.

Addition to the set–another completely-from-scratch Zero Suit Samus, anime-style!

She looks cool and all, but her face is odd (which I’m sure you know) her head is too big, her legs are too short, and the bottom part of her legs look a little odd to me, I dunno. But good job so far Mase.
